Hello everyone,

We got a phone call this morning from our son who is currently deployed with the US Marine Corp. He was injured yesterday in a firefight in Marjah Afghanistan. He was shot in his left calf. He had just gotten out of surgery and recovery when they allowed him to phone us. He tells us that there is no bone fracture and no damage to his tendons but that he has some pretty significant muscle damage. He will need additional surgery and rehab when he arrives back in the US. We are not sure what happens next but he says he gets to come home. We are thankful to have this news from Tyler himself as that means he is alright. Please pray for safe travels as he makes several stops in various countries before arriving. Please also pray for his upcoming medical needs and rehab so he can build a future beyond the Marine Corp. Ty credits a fellow Marine with saving his life by dragging him 100 feet out of the line of fire after being hit. As always, please keep these brave men and women in your prayers. They have been in constant combat since their arrival in Afghanistan. My sons unit, consisting of 3 companies has 16 men injured or KIA.

Filled with great home baked goodies, socks, dvds, bibles & more! Update on Sgt. Allen Schmeider

Sgt. Allen (Joe) Schmeider arrived home from D.C. Wednesday. He has had 6 surgeries to mend his arm and is now on the way to recovery. He is in a lot of pain and has had some neurological damage. (has a hard time remembering anything) Inaddition, he has ringing in his ears. He will be in Wisconsin until the 19th on medical leave when he will go back to D.C. until January. Then he will return to his unit in Alaska where he will remain through the rest of his service time.

Please continue to pray for his full recovery.

Who is Coach J Robinson?

Robinson has had an illustrious career as an Army Ranger during the Vietnam War, an

Olympic wrestler and one of the greatest coaches in University of Minnesota history.

Robinson demonstrated his bravery by telling a roomful of military policemen how he listens to Britney Spears and Lady Gaga to get motivated. Robinson is also caring. He flew to Iraq recently to motivate the troops and when he learned the government wasn’t going to pay his way, he was perfectly willing to fly halfway around world on his own dime. All to offer a simple “Thank you.”

“When the chaplain called and asked if I could come, I thought it was the least I could do,” said Robinson, who was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2005. “I was sitting at home, and you know what that’s like. It’s pretty good. Sometimes you don’t realize that until you leave.”

Robinson visited troops all over Contingency Operating Base Basra, at each stop encouraging Soldiers and telling them to embrace their deployment as a learning experience. “The lessons you learn in Iraq will follow you for the rest of your lives,” said Robinson, who attended Airborne, Jungle Warfare and Ranger school before deploying to Vietnam. “I’m more proud to be a Ranger than I am being an Olympian, because the lessons I learned there I’ve used for the rest of life.”

Robinson, a member of the 1972 Olympic Wrestling team, addressed Soldiers on the

importance of perspective, concentration, and the power of choice and striving for excellence in everything they do. In addition, Robinson told the Soldiers that someday they would be able to look back at their time in Iraq and be proud of the people they had helped, even those they had not known they helped.

“One thing you learn as a coach, you do a lot of stuff and you touch a lot of people, and you might never see it,” said Robinson. “You’re not always going to get that pat on the back.”

Robinson’s busy schedule included wrestling classes with the 34th Military Police Company. The coach of three team national titles instructed the MP’s on hand placement and balance; “the fundamentals,” said the seven-time Big Ten Coach of the Year. “It’s part of his striving for excellence,” said Lt. Col. Jeffery Johnson, Inspector General for the 34th Red Bull Infantry Division and an alumnus of the U of M.

“A, giving thanks from the state of Minnesota, and B, helping the MP’s strive for excellence.”

While Robinson could only visit for a few days, his visit was appreciated up to the highest levels.“Soldiers want to know three things: to know that their folks back home are alright, that life back home is going normally, and that folks back home are thinking of them,” said Brig. Gen. David Eliciero, deputy commanding general of the 34th Inf. Div., and U of M Class of 1980. “I think this accomplishes that.”

So who is Coach J Robinson?

A Ranger?

An Olympian?

A Hall of Fame Wrestling coach?

For a while in C.O.B .Basra, the answer was simple: a legend, an old Soldier, a man willing to come back out to the front to show his gratitude to the Soldiers personally.

“For me, I have to come out here to say thanks,” said Robinson.

URGENT Prayer Request

Please lift up one of our soldiers who was just home on leave & went back to Afghan. A roadside bomb exploded & hit him. They have transported him back to the states & he is @ Walter Reid Military Hospital. The only info we have right now is one of his arms has been damaged & he also has a hit to his head. Pray for his comfort, healing & wisdom for the Dr’s w/successful surgeries. Also pray for peace for his family. I will post more as it is received.

SOLDIER UPDATES

Corey Braunschweig update:

Received notice that Corey Braunschweig will be home on leave starting the last week of September. Please thank him for serving if you’re in attendance at the church service that we will be recognizing him.

Galen Patterson Update:

Currently attached to the Reservist PICO Co in Afghanistan. Galen’s mom said he sounded good, strong & wanted to thank everyone for the letters & pkgs. He is grateful to be remembered & said the things sent were “dead on”. The guys couldn’t wait for the boxes to be opened. He has lost 30 lbs since deployment & the weather is cooling down @ night. Daytime temps are around 90-95 vs 130 so at night they’re looking for blankets now. They built a new chow hall & named it Shiloh. Once a week or so they get a herd of camels that streak through their compound. They don’t know where they come from or where they go but they’re like clock work.

Galen will be leaving Nov. 15 & will be on starting his leave Dec.12th w/29 days off. He’ll be home for Christmas so please be sure & shake his hand when he comes to visit Celebration Church during that time.

We’re PROUD of & THANKFUL to our soldiers !!!
